WINEMAKER : Luca & Paolo De Marchi, Proprieta Sperino
REGION : Piedmont, Italy
GRAPE : Nebbiolo, Vespolina
VINTAGE : 2022
ABV : 13%
NOTES : Vegan
Fantastic rosé that’s been a lynchpin of our wine pairing for our Summer and Autumn menus. This was the origin of the De Marchi family, now famous for their world class Chianti Classico estate Isole e Olena and you can really feel the quality in its production. Complex but approachable with an 80:20 blend of Nebbiolo & Vespolina. The wine itself is a rose, orange shade and delivers powerful wild strawberry, peach and fresh fruit aromas but the palat is savoury, dry and more ripe apple and orchard fruits with a clean finish. The contrast on the nose to the mouth is very harmonious. We took this on tour to our takeover at Raby Hunt (epic 2* restaurant in Darlington) where it went down a storm! Pair with white meats, fish, grilled vegetables but is great with punchier sauces with bell pepper and red chilli leads. Think Jalfrezi!

WINERY & PRODUCTION
Paolo de Marchi grew up in Lessona and only moved to Tuscany when his father purchased the land that would become the world-renowned Isole e Olena estate. It took time and hard work but his passion and skill as a wine-maker shone through. Eventually he returned to re-ignite Propieta Sperino and eventually produce this outstanding wine with his son Luca. The grapes themselves are hand picked before sorted to ensure only the best grapes make it into the bottle. They’re softly press and gravity-fed into tanks for8 hours of maceration before fermentation. The wine then stays on fine lees for 5 months and delivers complexity but such great balance too!
