Andrea Bender, Pinot Noir

This fantastic German Pinot Noir showcases all the best things about the varietal grape that rival and surpasses the considerably more expensive Burgundian cousins. It’s brilliant ruby red in colour with succulent aromas of red fruits with a delicate touch of spice. Supported with a vanilla and caramel element from the gentle oak aging for 12 months in French/American oak barriques. It’s a classy Spatzburgunder (or Pinot Noir to the rest of the world) with hits of cherry, wild strawberry but with a sophisticated texture, gentle tannins and mouth watering acidity from a great producer that shares a modern approach with a great respect for tradition much like ourselves!

WINERY & PRODUCTION

Andreas Bender is a renegade of the wine community in Mosel but has lived and breathed wine and region since birth in Mosel. He created his first wine when he was just 13 years of age before moving around the world to learn from the best across France, Italy and the USA. Eventually returning home to his family’s winery to begin his first project at 28. The area is sandwiched between the Rheine and the Haardt mountains just north of Alsace where it is shielded from the harsh temperatures of the atlantic, allowing for better ripening and more elegant wines. Bucking the trend of top German producers using single vineyards are vinified and bottled separately, Andreas takes the approach to blend the grapes from his top stretches. However, his respect for tradition fortifies the quality of his wine with his knowledge terroir & tradition while sticking to simple methods and natural fermentation produce some outstanding wines from this maverick.
