WINEMAKER : Francisco Martinez Bomeli, Vera de Estenas

REGION : Utiel-Requena, Spain

GRAPE : Bobal

VINTAGE : 2022

ABV : 12.5%

Bobal is a native Valencian grape, specifically to Utiel-Requena, that is sadly not mentioned enough when talking about great spanish grapes dominated by Tempranillo but has seen a huge resurgence in the last 10 years, now sitting as the second most popular grape for the country. It’s vigorous and adaptable to high temperatures. This example comes from one of the oldest producers in the region with a reputation for creating real quality from vines that can be up to 100 years old. This Bobal is rich garnet colour with a urple trim. It’s fresh with bright acidity and a playful palate of plums and raspberries dancing with sweet spices and a clean mineral touch. Intense on the nose with the same fruity and mineral touches. It’s a great party wine with sophistication but exciting character. The bottle itself tells you as much with a minimal label but playful string wrapped around the neck! Robust enough to partner with spice and drinks well with most lower to medium spiced dishes and meats. Think Makhni, Dhals and roasted meat or vegetables here to get the most out of it.

WINERY & PRODUCTION

Vera de Estenas is a passionate house based in what was a small sailor town from a family grown in wine. They absolutely love their craft and love the final product. Held in esteem as one of the most traditional producers in the region where it can get super hot, the vines are trained en vaso to help but the solano winds give welcome restbite too! The grapes are vinified in cement tanks and then aged for 4 months in clay pots ready to drink young!
